Pre Requisites: None

Course Information: A comprehensive course over 3 days that covers all requirements for the award. The course includes both theory and practical sessions and assessment. All places of work are required to have staff trained to this level. Whether it is work related or for personal progression this is an excellent course that gives you confidence to help others when needed. The qualification lasts for 3 years.

Course Information: To qualify for this shorter 2 day course you must book before your FAW qualification runs out. It provides a chance to revisit skills learnt at your initial FAW course and covers the whole syllabus again. You will be updated on the latest developments in the field of first aid. The re qualification lasts for a further 3 years.

defib training (AED)

(QNUK Level 2 Award In Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator)
(QNUK Level 2 Award In Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation)

Pre Requisites: None

Course Information: Although you do not have to have professional training to use a defibrillator we find that this course gives you experience in its use and therefore the confidence to actually use an AED when you really need to. W
e also cover CPR in this course. Defibrillators are becoming more common in the workplace and in public spaces and are so important in improving the chances of a full and quick recovery.

outdoor first aid (OFA)

(QNUK Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid)

This 2 day Qualifications Network (QNUK) first aid courses are ideal for outdoor leaders, Duke of Edinburgh Award participants and leaders, teachers, field scientists, archaeologists, field engineers and outdoor enthusiasts alike taking you through the skills essential for rescue and emergency care in the wilderness. Additionally, if you need an outdoor first aid course to revalidate your NGB award (eg MIC, MIA, Mountain Leader, SPA, WGL, BASI, Mountain Bike Leader, Local Cave and Mine Leader etc) then these accredited courses are for you.

Pre Requisites: This Regulated Qualification is suitable for those aged 16 years plus and who are required to hold a recognised Outdoor First Aid qualification and can be relied upon by employers. This qualification fulfills the requirements of the following organisations for their award holders:

  • British Canoeing
  • British Cycling
  • Royal Yachting Association
  • Mountain Training Association
  • ERCA
  • Sportsleaders UK
  • Forest School Practitioners

This training meets the IOL Band 4 statement of good practice.

Course Content

  • Understand the scope of outdoor first aid
  • Scene assessment and incident management outdoors
  • Casualty assessment
  • Dealing with the unresponsive breathing casualty in the outdoors
  • Administration of Basic Life Support when in the outdoors
  • Dealing with a choking casualty when outdoors
  • Controlling bleeding when outdoors
  • Recognition & treatment for fractures & dislocations when outdoors
  • Recognition & treatment for head, neck & torso injuries
  • Recognition & treatments for sudden medical emergencies when outdoors
  • Recognition & treatment for heat related injuries (hot/cold) when outdoors
  • Responding to an incident involving activity or environmental factors when outdoor

Assessment: To achieve this award students are required to complete a number of practical tests and sit two multi-choice exam papers. They must achieve a minimum of 70% to pass mark from each multi-choice paper.
